We Know How the Other Side Thinks
Having prosecuted serious criminal matters on behalf of the Crown, our counsel understands exactly how police construct their briefs, what DPP prosecutors prioritise, and — crucially — where those cases fracture. We have sat across the courtroom and built the cases our opponents now rely on. That experience is not incidental. It is the sharpest tool in every brief we hold, translating into targeted cross-examinations, early identification of evidentiary weaknesses, and plea negotiations that carry genuine weight.

If You've Been Arrested — Read This First
You have the right to silence. Exercise it. Do not answer police questions until you have spoken with a lawyer. Here's what you need to know.
In Victoria, you are not legally required to answer police questions beyond providing your name and address. This right is absolute. Refusing to speak is not an admission of guilt — it is a lawful exercise of your rights under the Evidence Act and at common law. Do not let police pressure or implied consequences change your decision.
You are entitled to contact a lawyer before any police interview takes place. Under the Criminal Procedure Act, police must give you a reasonable opportunity to do so before questioning begins. Do not waive this right — not for convenience, not under time pressure. Say clearly: "I want to speak to a lawyer before I answer any questions."
After arrest you will be booked in, searched, and placed in a custody cell. If an interview proceeds, it will be recorded as a Record of Interview. At the conclusion of the interview, police may release you unconditionally, issue bail with conditions, or apply to have you remanded in custody until a court appearance. Each stage carries critical legal consequences.

Every client's circumstances are unique. These outcomes are real matters we have run — names and identifying details removed to protect privacy.
Our client faced serious drug trafficking charges following a targeted police operation in Melbourne's north. We retained an independent forensic chemist to examine exhibit handling protocols and chain-of-custody documentation. Critical procedural failures were identified in how substances were stored and transferred post-seizure. We served a formal notice on the prosecution indicating our intention to challenge the evidence. The Office of Public Prosecutions withdrew all charges six weeks before the County Court trial date.
Charges DroppedA professional transport driver faced dual charges of drink driving at the prescribed concentration and wilful refusal to provide a breath sample — either of which would have terminated a commercial licence held for nineteen years. We negotiated a criminal diversion hearing, presenting a detailed character portfolio, voluntary completion of a traffic offenders programme, and written evidence of financial and personal hardship. The Magistrate granted diversion. No conviction was recorded and the licence was retained in full.
Diversion GrantedOur client was charged with assault causing injury following an altercation outside a licensed venue in Melbourne's CBD. The complainant's testimony was the prosecution's principal evidence. Pre-trial preparation revealed material inconsistencies between successive statements made to police, and CCTV footage that directly contradicted the alleged sequence of events. The cross-examination of the complainant was decisive. After two and a half hours of deliberation, the County Court jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty on all counts.
Not GuiltyFollowing a guilty plea to multiple counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception totalling $340,000, our client faced a real prospect of immediate imprisonment. We commissioned a comprehensive psychological report, compiled extensive evidence of voluntary restitution and rehabilitation, and prepared detailed sentencing submissions addressing proportionality and the client's prospects of rehabilitation. The sentencing judge departed from the prosecution's custodial recommendation and imposed a community corrections order with unpaid community service. Our client returned home that evening.
