Maya, Melbourne-based illustrator, in her studio

Hi, I'm Maya.

I'm a Melbourne-based illustrator with ink-stained fingers, a hundred half-filled sketchbooks, and an obsession with finding the extraordinary in the everyday. Every drawing starts with a cup of too-strong coffee and a blank page — and somehow ends up somewhere magical.

I work with publishers, magazines, brands, and people who just need a little more colour in their lives. Whether it's a book cover that makes you pick it up or a brand character that feels like an old friend — I put the same wonder into every line.

Concept Sketching

02

Inking & Colour

Lines go final. Colour palette locked. Texture and warmth layered in.

Details, tweaks, and that one last touch that makes it sing.

The FAQs

Turnaround depends on the scope. A single editorial illustration is usually 5–10 business days from brief sign-off. Character design packages run 2–3 weeks. Surface pattern sets are 3–4 weeks. Rush timelines are available for an additional fee — mention it in your enquiry and I'll let you know if the slot is available.

All final files are delivered as high-resolution PNG (300 dpi, transparent background where applicable), print-ready PDF, and layered PSD or AI source files. For surface patterns, seamless tile files are included in both repeat and half-drop formats. If you need a specific format not listed here — SVG, EPS, TIFF — just ask and I'll accommodate it.

Every commission includes two rounds of revisions at the sketch stage and one round after final colour is applied. A revision means meaningful changes to composition, character, or palette — not a full direction change. Major changes after approval are quoted separately. I find that when the brief is solid from the start, most projects need fewer revisions than that anyway.

Standard commissions include a single-use licence for the agreed medium (e.g. one magazine issue, one product line, one website). Extended licences covering multiple uses, territories, or timeframes are available and priced based on scope. Exclusive rights (meaning I won't use the artwork in my portfolio or elsewhere) are negotiable. All licensing terms are written clearly into the project contract before work begins — no surprises.

Yes — a 50% kill fee applies to any project cancelled after sketches have been approved. If the project is cancelled at brief stage before any work has begun, the deposit (25% of project total) is non-refundable to cover my time holding the slot. This protects us both and ensures I can take on other work with confidence. The full terms are always in the contract.
